How I got started in the world of recruitment
After starting my architectural recruitment career in the mid-2000’s, I later joined leading technical recruitment agency; STR, and created the architectural recruitment brand; urban, establishing a strong presence for the business in a number of key geographical territories.
A key passion I’ve always had is for doing business better than the rest. Being in business gives us an opportunity to affect life’s positively, and this is something I have pioneered in the organisations I have worked within.
What motivates me to do more for others
Since I was first integrated into the architectural recruitment industry, nearly 20 years ago, it has been clear that there were issues of diversity and inclusion that the industry needed support in tackling. I was always inspired by the story of Stephen Lawrence, and his unfulfilled desire to become an architect, which is why I wanted to support the outstanding work of Blueprint for All as they sought to affect sustainable long term change through their Building Futures programme.
My initial interaction with Blueprint for All, was virtue of fundraising. My relationship with the charity inspired me to lead my teams to complete the UK Three Peaks Challenge, carry out a 25 hour, 75 mile walk to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Stephen’s death, and I ran (well slowly jogged) the London Marathon all to raise money for this incredible organisation.
I was also incredibly proud to lead the initiative to receive award recognition, including a Third Sector Business Charity Award for Most impactful partnership alongside Blueprint for All, and the REC Diversity Champion Award. I’m just getting started in my bid to help enhance equity within the sector though, and the relationship with Blueprint for All will go from strength to strength.
So, why did I setup Rhythm Careers?
I’m passionate about great architectural recruitment, and this combined with the skills I refined completing an MBA in Strategic Leadership from Portsmouth University in 2021, saw me want to do more.
Rhythm Careers is the vehicle to enable me to develop newer initiatives to enhance ED&I in our great industry, established more high value partnerships and contribute more – financially and personally to making a positive difference.
Rhythm Careers will focus upon building a business with experienced experts employed throughout, where the issues of high staff turnover and the poor service quality found from inexperienced recruiters is an issue of the past, and the revolving door style of consultant recruitment other competitors use, is rejected in favour of quality, consultative based service.
Above all though, I was determined to create something where whether you’re a client or candidate using a recruitment business, you knew you were working with one with strong ethics and a commitment to change.
